BOTOX Cosmetic has become one of the most popular treatments nationwide, but not everyone is well versed in its benefits. When I administer BOTOX in Dallas, I often find myself educating my patients on the fundamentals of this effective anti-aging treatment. If you are new to BOTOX and are considering trying it out for yourself, here are the basics:

  • BOTOX is a wrinkle relaxer. BOTOX directly targets dynamic wrinkles, which result from the repeated contractions of specific muscles. Injecting BOTOX into these muscles blocks the nerve impulses that cause the contractions. The muscles relax, which in turn reduces the wrinkles.
  • When performed by a skilled injector, BOTOX looks very natural. Don’t trust your BOTOX injections to just anyone. An experienced dermatologist will administer just the right amount of BOTOX – and in the right locations – to smooth your wrinkles subtly. At our practice, we are exceedingly careful to avoid creating a frozen look where it’s obvious that the patient has had a cosmetic treatment. The goal with BOTOX Cosmetic is to achieve a natural, more youthful appearance.
  • BOTOX has been used in medicine for many years. Many people are unaware that BOTOX started as a medical treatment more than 3 decades ago. In the early 1980s, medical practitioners used it to treat certain neurological conditions. Today, its myriad medical uses include treatments for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), incontinence and migraines. So you can rest assured that BOTOX is not only safe – it’s medically sound.
