anti aging treatments houston Understanding InjectionsPart of my job as a dermatologist specializing in anti aging in Houston is educating my patients about their specific skin conditions and the treatments available. One subject that many people have difficulty understanding is the difference between BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers. While both are injectable treatments, each has its own method of reducing the signs of aging.

BOTOX Cosmetic

Dynamic wrinkles result from muscle contractions. In your face, they’re essentially the remnants of your most common expressions over the years. When BOTOX is injected into problem areas such as frown lines, crow’s-feet and forehead creases, it smooths out dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers also correct wrinkles, but they take a markedly different approach. Aging and sun exposure deplete volume in the tissues just beneath the skin. As a result, the skin becomes lax and wrinkled. Volume loss also causes hollowed-out areas in the cheeks and under the eyes. Dermal fillers resolve these issues by restoring volume and stimulating hydration and collagen production.

Even Better Together

Best of all, you can reap the benefits of both approaches simultaneously. BOTOX and fillers complement each other to achieve wrinkle reduction from 2 fronts. Ask your dermatologist about combining BOTOX and fillers for maximum rejuvenation.
